Children's version of The Big Read at Thomas Ford Memorial Library


This year's selection is Sharon Creech's Granny Torrelli Makes Soup, a warm tale about family, friends, and the traditions that tie us together. Kids Read program guides will be available February 1.

The Big Read at the Thomas Ford Memorial Library in Western Springs


Beginning February 1st the popular reading event will begin with The Shoemaker's Wife written by Adriana Trigiani. About two star-crossed lovers whose journeys take them from the mountains of Italy to America. This is more than a love story. It captures the immigrant experience of the early 1900s. The Big Read is a cooperative project with the Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Indian Prairie, LaGrange, LaGrange Pk, Lisle, Westmont and Woodridge public libraries. It seeks to connect our communities through literature. A complete program guide will be available at the Reference Desk. Located at the corner of Chestnut and Wolf Road just two blocks north of the train.

Lyons Township All School Art Show


The talents of LTHS art students will be on display at the South Campus Corral on Gilbert/Willow Springs Road just past the Garden Market Shopping Center. Thursday, April 26 & 27th 3-5 pm, April 28th 10 am - 4 pm, April 29th noon-4 pm, May 1,2,3,4 3-5pm, May 5th 10 am -4 pm and Sunday May 6th noon to 4 pm. Come see the local talent!

Western Springs Recreation Department Summer catalog

Just a reminder that the brochure came in the mail today and registration for Summer programs is mail-in must be received by 4:30 PM on Thurs., April 12 at 1500 Walker St. Than resident registration continues as a walk-in with 1st come 1st serve on Monday April 16th at the Rec Center beginning at 8:30 am. Non-resident registration begins Monday, April 23rd. Lottery registration for mail-in/dropped off forms takes place at 8:30 am to noon on April 23rd. This contest is open to ages preschool-5th grade. The form is available at wsprings.com, the library, the rec center, Grand Avenue Community Center and the schools. Submit the form by April 2nd to the Recreation office for display and a chance to win a prize!

Teddy Bear Sleepover at Thomas Ford Memorial Library in Western Springs

On February 3rd there is a Teddy Bear Sleepover at the library for 4 and older. Hot cocoa and cookies and a few stories will be read before you say your good-byes. Make sure you bring a blanket for your friend. When the Library closes the stuffed animals will have all sorts of adventures. You will find out what they did when you pick them up in the morning! Book Discussion Group at the Ford Library in Western Springs

March 7th at 7:30 pm they will be reviewing the book Little Bee by Chris Cleave. Stop in the library approx. a month before the discussion. They will have extra copies of this book. Check out the review!

Film Discussion Group at The Thomas Ford Library on February 3rd




Skin is based on a true story of a black girl who was born to two white Afrikaner parents in South Africa during the apartheid era. Doors open at 6:45 and the movie is at 7 followed by a lively discussion. Feb. 3rd-close to home. Maybe have dinner in town before the movie.
