A musical performance by Karen Smith, a native of Western Springs. Karen graduated from Lyons Township High School and married and moved to Mexico City. She received her musical training there. Her musical talents include voice and keyboard.

Cross walk on Ogden into Bemis Woods in Western Springs

I was reading the article about the proposed cross walk on Ogden into Bemis Woods. It was agreed at the meeting this week to have a yellow light that is activated by pedestrians and bikers at Woodland and Ogden so people can safely cross into Bemis Woods. There is still more to the process but it looks like some progress.

I was wondering if you think it is a good idea or bad? Residents on Woodland fear for increased traffic on their street. I was concerned that a yellow light doesn't always stop drivers who are in a hurry but it may make the person crossing have a false sense of safety.

What are your thoughts?

St. John of the Cross FIESTA this Sunday

All community residents are invited to attend the fundraising FIESTA this Sunday, Oct. 16th, which will include authentic Mexican food/hot buffet, entertainment by the Pequenos("little ones"), a raffle and the opportunity to sponsor one of the 3700 children served by Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos/NPH.

On Oct. 12th, 16 Pequenos, ages 12-18, and the 3 chaperones arrived at St. John of the Cross. They are being hosted by parishioners who have volunteered their homes. Each day these visiting children will be bused to other venues in the Chicago area as they are here to raise awareness and fund for Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos/NPH orphanages which are located in nine Latin and Caribbean countries.
